Project i-Clare

  • Title of the project:
Intelligent remediation system for removal of harmful contaminants in water using modified reticulated vitreous carbon foams.
  • Project acronym:
    i-Clare
  • Project timeline:
    01.10.2020 - 30.04.2024
  • Project is implemented under Programme ,,Applied Research” under Norwegian Financial Mechanisms 2014 – 2021.
  • Project co-financed from the state budget.
  • Programme ,,Applied research”
  • Funding:
    6 930 210,68 PLN
  • Total investment value:
    6 482 375,06 PLN

The goal of the project

THE GOAL OF THE PROJECT CONCERNS THE DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF THE ELECTROCHEMICAL WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM

  • With implemented artificial intelligence procedures dedicated to identify and learn the most efficient operating parameters in order to dispose of a given mixture of contaminants

  • The main project objective is to develop, construct and validate system based on an intelligent electrochemical reactor – i-CLARE – for removal of harmful contaminants dissolved in water such as pesticides, antibiotics, dioxins, hormones and plant protection products etc

Impact

The application of the system will contribute to:

The project contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

  • New digital and low-power water treatment technology

  • Low-cost electrodes - affordable breakthrough innovation, which deploy a combination of advanced technologies and processes so as to extract maximum value from all resources

  • AI-aided system - improvement of physical environment in people's everyday life and at the workplace

  • Lower impact of pollution and other environmental issues reducing death and illness from exposure to chemicals and environmental pollution.

  • To support environmental-friendly, healthy, resilient and sustainable living and working environment

Outcomes

Increase of the of energy efficient use and selective resource management

  • Greater adaptation of cities to climate change, in a holistic approach, z with a focus on water treatment and waste treatment.

  • System will provide faster decontamination (50% faster) and a shorter disposal chain limiting logistics and illegal storage of harmful agents

  • Exchange of experience and know-how between entities involved in the project.

  • Strengthening of the bilateral cooperation between scientists from Poland and from Norway.

  • Participation of students and young researchers in the project will increase their competences and chances on the international labour market.
